Change

I trudge through the lush rainforest.
Sprouting plants tickle me as I pass.
I observe the turquoise waters,
crashing into the moist soil,
like teeth clawing onto the soft land.
This land, so beautiful and full of life.
Flowers blooming, leaves swaying, water dripping.
Will this last forever?
I wander across the dry, cracked land,
my parched lips begging for water.
I peer into a large hole in the ground,
nothing but sand and rock,
an empty plain.
This land, so dry and lonely,
sticks rustling, rocks clacking, pebbles crunching.
How did this happen?
A once vibrant rainforest
is now an empty desert.
Change can’t be stopped.
Nothing is eternal.
