Charm

like a fragile hope;
a fleck of light in the dark
dodging the raindrops,
dashing
through the city, hand in hand,
we won't let each other slip
brittle urban winds
and school bell rings
why can't I see the sunshine now?
Staring at the very point where
the water and sky look into
each other's eyes
fast evening melts away
as sun dances across the bay
late nights, early morning, staring
out the window, always see you there
it's a cold morning, kids, grab your coats!
You packed the car, took a new route
gone now, on a road you can't predict
waiting for what's coming next
we grab the balloons and invite friends
I remember, wrapped up in a pouch
of silk sleeping in a snowy box
an old friend that looked like the star-draped canopy of the desert night
like a fragile hope;
a fleck of light in the dark
