I heard the waves first,

The sound slithered into my mind.

It pulled me out of my bed and to the window,

That looked out across the bay.

The moonlight shimmered across the oblivion,

The horizon calling my name.

I watched the stars,

Scattered across the dark void.

If I stayed there any longer,

Something bad would happen.

So I left.

I lumbered back to the safety of my bed,

Where the waves couldn’t chase me up the shore,

Where the deep sea stared up at me from the pier,

Willing me to jump in.

I wanted to,

But I couldn’t.

If I did,

I’d drown.
