Desert Rain

T'was some infernal furnace
just mere few moments ago,
from arid still air
and cracking glass earth
and open sapphire sky,
cloudless and blinding.
In an instant, blue no longer
Thunder! Grey and dreary
deluging holes newly built
by hardy monitors, skinks and scorpions
inundating, transforming
what was once amber to
first ochre, then crimson.
When oxidised terracotta dirt
is flooded with the rainbow serpent's gift
the dichotomy of nature is once more
discovered by man.
