Peppermint branches creak

as little creatures scuttle

little waves roll across the big lake

hit by drops no bigger than a pea.

Bright white light fills the sky

illuminating, if only for a second,

the thirsty eucalypts reaching for the rain.

In the faint blue light

shiny fish dart through the weeds

thinking, wondering, always moving

undisturbed by the surface world above.

Little worms squirm

creating passages through the dirt

delighted by the moisture, they wriggle to the top.

Peppermint branches slow

as creatures begin to dry

the big lake stills

as the droplets slow to a stop.
