alone the tree stands

alone in a field once full and vibrant

now stripped and barren

leaves that once danced in the breeze now vanished

a boy appeared, his smile filled with nothing but greed

he demanded an apple and took more than he'd need

day by day, month by month,

the boy came back and took what he wanted, then left full of glee

day by day, the torment grew severe

til the day no apples were hung

in a rage, the boy came back, but in his bare hands was an axe

gone went the vibrant tree colours

replaced by an empty pure black

no could be heard, not a whisper in sight

alone the tree stood

a lone survivor

the tree started to plea

a message for us

so listen we must

to cherish nature and hold it dear
