Fire

I walked to the corner
Watched my house burn to ground
The heat and the smoke
Battered us around
With services down
Power gone out
We sit on the footpath
Facing black burnt land in doubt
Flames danced on leaves
More sparks alight
Trees licked by tongues of fire
Day turned night
As time heals so will nature
Flowers will again bloom
New growth new life
Forgetting such doom
We will recover
Time itself will defeat the pain
As no change without sacrifice
To get a rainbow you have to put up with the rain
