Forest of Corpses

A dim, pale light emanates from the clouded night sky
Falling gently from the heavens like the tiny droplets of water beside it.
Far, far below me, water falls on the forest.
In the night, the trees and insects of the forest glow with orange and white light.
In the day, they dim, and the strange, blocky shapes and unusual colors of trees are revealed.
If those tree had leaves, then they fell and were swept away long ago.
If those trees could still grow, then they have lost that too.
Beneath the strange, glowing trees, the insects move on dark grey stone pockmarked with white, stopping and starting at small sets of light.
If they could one fly or climb, they have lost that ability.
The ants small and almost everywhere, walk on two legs, and the color of their skin colours ranging from pale white to deep brown.
They travel beside the insects and into the tall trees every day, retreating back into small trees every night.
The cycle never ends in this forest of corpse trees and glowing, earthbound insects.
Day and night, from dusk to dawn to dusk again, the strange, eerie forest moves and glows and darkens in the same ways each day and night.
But, like all forests, it will end one day.
As I spread my wings and soar high above the trees, I feel that day coming soon.
