I watch from a distance,

Beyond this field of grass where youth lay bare.

The song of birds echoes through my non-existent eardrums,

The joy of humanity so far from my roots.

I watch from a distance,

A scene played on repeat.

My lonesome everlasting

Skies ever-shifting.

I watch from a distance,

Forever waiting,

Longing for another’s company.

Longing to be seen.

I watch from a distance,

Forever stuck in the earth’s soil

Shedding imaginary tears-

For those whose life is my dream.

I watch from a distance,

The wind as my only companion,

As time starts to wither-

And the flesh of my timber no longer standing.
