Emerging from the depths
Endless melancholy.
Another wave tosses you on to the rocks.
Though the eyes are still, the heart weeps.
Silently, your chest lurches,
Part of the swell.
Forwards, backwards.

Everything shattered,
Shells crushed under the feet of a giant.
Although you breathe,
It’s in crisp, staggered waves.
Short, shallow.
Surroundings are distant,
Whispered through the sea spray.
Melodies echo,
Unrecognisable.

Stuck in this shoreless sea.
No way out of the water.
Weak limbs fail to keep you up.
Under you go.
You can’t swim.
Gently goes the sun
Softly the light leaves.
Sinking, sinking, sunk.

Screaming for help,
The water finds a way back in.
Dropping to the hushed, underwater caves,
The evil of beneath.
Where malevolent spirits hold gatherings, collecting bodies.
Lurking in the deep
Souls.

As you settle, saltwater drains into your lungs.
Filling, taking all that is left
The fight is done.
You are gone,
Gone.

Day comes once again,
Faint sea birds flock back to their nests.
Rest falls upon weary minds,
Tranquillity arouses anew.
The sun awakes once again.
