Gum Tree

Scavenge through the tall thin trees that surround
the centre towering gum tree
shedding old leaves
on the edge of Gamilaroi land
The scent of eucalyptus leaves
fills my nostrils as fresh leaves grow.
The breeze sweeps away
loose grass
now drifting into the night sky
A shooting star darts through the sky
filling my heart with joy against the cold flustering air
Pushing against the evergreen leaf trees
