The wombat strong and bold, scruffy and fluffy

Sweet and nice in the sunlight.

Shimmering and glowing

Sneaking out of the crunchy bushes.

The wombat tiptoes across the quiet road

Cars barely seen passing around the corner.

Watch out! I scream in a rush.

Suddenly a car zooms, fast.

Splat!

The helpless wombat tries to move, but can’t.

She yelps, yelps for help, terrified of what will happen next.

In a heartbeat, I’m off like a flash.

I violently dash

Gently place her in the long grass

Before it’s too late.

Roadkill happens way too often.
