Hisss

Merciless, beautiful creatures of the land
Borne of the harsh Australian soil and sand
Slender, slithering, scaly, silent beings
Gem like eyes surveying secret, solemn scenes
The red bellied black snake hides near slimy swamps
Sable scales striking strangers with warning prompts
Exposed stunning surface as black as midnight
An underbelly that’s red like magma bright
The blue bellied black snake slithers past woodlands
Aggressive hisses voicing warning demands
Scales dark blue like the depths of sapphire seas
Azure hyacinth sheen that makes people freeze
The carpet python roams the arid deserts
Basking in the sun at a city’s outskirts
Sinewy citrine slivers of summer sun
Tessellating hexagons designed to stun
The Inland Taipan dwells at the black soil plains
One bite and a sly poison runs through your veins
Its simple sepia surface lasts endlessly
Much like nature’s spectacular earth and sea.
