I want to be Epacris Virgata

When I grow up, I want to be an Epacris virgata
It’s a flower, for those of you who may not know
Not a rose, nor daisy, lavender, or et cetera
I can already hear people asking “Why would you wish to be so?“
It’s true, it’s not a common favorite and is rather unique
But isn’t that what everyone wishes to be? To be rare?
So far, I haven’t found anything to critique
And when compared to others, is just as pretty and fair
I can either be a hindrance,
As reviving an endangered species is a hefty task
Or inspire others to make a difference,
Leaving an impression on future generations that shall forever last
Delicate and stunning, all while misunderstood
Two different types that rise during the spring or fall
Covered with leaves, petals, and thorns on this shrub of wood
Beaconsfield and Kettering, shielded from it all
Not exposed, like the others, to the dangers that reside on this Earth
Like it, I wish to be free, to flourish, to gleam, be nourished, and glow
Protected from the chaos, the hatred, and negativity outside of my turf
For those who asked why? Why? Because I want to grow.
