When the humans first arrived,

my friends and I welcomed them

With food grown from our branches,

and homes from our wood.

When the humans first arrived,

they took our food,

our wood for homes,

and in exchange, we got

New soil, fresh soil

To grow from

When the humans arrived,

they took our wood,

our food, our shade,

my friends.

And they stopped returning,

no more new soil, fresh soil.

Replaced,

with an axe through my chest.

When the humans first arrived,

my friends and I welcomed them.
