Koala in a Eucalypt

As I leave my home, ready for school,

a eucalyptus tree conceals life.

High up in the shimmering canopy of leaves,

a young koala blinks.

She clambers further up the tree, 

she knows the tastiest leaves are always at the top.

Although she’s slower than sleeping clouds, 

and the day goes by in the blink of an eye, 

she’s kind and loving. 

She knocks down leaves and branches for insects to eat down below

but soon the soothing scent of the eucalypt,

and the soft brush of the leaves, 

pushes her into the dream realm once more.

She snores in the fork of the branches

and sleeps soundly in her sanctuary.
