The fluffy koala was clinging to the ghostly bark of the green-grey gum tree

Melting my heart as it went further up the tree

The scent of the wattle wafting through the air

The stars sprinkling the setting sky

The birds around me an alarm clock snapping me out of my dreams

The sun had set above me but the koala had not stopped her climb

Climbing higher and higher her goal was set and then I saw why

Baby koala as high as the sky perched in the fork of the tree

As mother met baby, the koala gripped the baby, relief in her eyes

The mother clutching her baby like a tiny teddy bear

As the sky went black, the baby koala drifted off to sleep

The crickets like a lullaby soothing her in her sleep
