It opens at my touch,
I dive inside and it envelops me
I feel the blackness in my hands,
like soft liquid running between my fingers.

Toucans splash vibrant colours with a graceful flap
against the pink-hued canvas of the sky,
the clouds sit precariously in the portrait, nailed to the backdrop,
then a wave builds, stirring and rolling in a deep rumble.
It crashes over me, I tumble.
A tiger seeks out its prey,
the hard, yellowed grass crunches and spikes as it stalks,
it pounces, huge paws outstretched,
jagged claws ripping through the extensions of its body.
I fall.

My fingers move effortlessly across its smooth surface,
my thoughts are drawn and locked inside.

I didn’t realise its power at first.
Tick, tick, tick.
It waits for me to unlock its secrets,
and yet, I trust it with mine.
