Ominous figures stand tall

scars taunting arid bark

as time passes

Sun prickles the spinifex

Sweat seeps into the soil

forming streams that haste about

A zephyr caresses the fern

with the pleasant aroma of hot chocolate

Wafting under the nose

When frost obliterates

the warmth of fun

foliage morphs into segments of rime

A kookaburra’s laugh

is ubiquitous,

lorikeets mess about

while the flowering gum blooms

A stream

Comes rushing through

Like tears that drown in a pool of comfort,

as time passes.
