Lonely

A lone bird settles in the bare tree,
Leaves lying crumpled in the frost,
The loud silence as consuming as can be,
Left behind with what they had lost.
But then buds begin to grow,
As the sun rises, the sky a faint blue,
The bird’s wings unfurl, shaking off snow
And they both begin to start anew.
