I am emailing a tree
Yet it is not a tree
Just a mere human, masquerading as one

I pose a question...

Is it fair
For us to pretend to be them
And to know their thoughts and opinions
When we are the ones
Who threaten them?

Is it fair
That we do nothing
But sit behind a screen,
Busy in the pretence of being an apple tree
But not trying to help it thrive?

Is it fair
To give the trees a number
When we say we care so much today
About individuals defining their own identity?

Yet they say it raises awareness...
