I walk out onto the verandah
Greeted by the smell
of hot hay on a summers day.
Feet scatter on the Lino floor.
An animal with caramel fur,
Long white teeth,
Leathery pink paws stares out at me,
Eyes like a moonless night.
Scared as a mouse
Like a rabbit with short ears
Her nose tickles against my skin
She climbs up my shirt
She is so small
She can fit in a tissue box,
In one hand
She is soft but rough like a lions mane
I put her down
Her feet scatter like marbles on wooden floor
This is why I love her,
My guinea pig Minka.
