My Lucky Bracelet

My lucky bracelet twisted in a taut smooth rope
lying loosely on my small, bony wrist
The vibrant red thread clearly stating luck
while the miniature wooden money bag is engraved
with two small fine Chinese script pronouncing “rich”
The simple jewellery given to me as a token
of my family, whilst in a monotonous var trip
to Beijing airport.
Originally, it lay helplessly at the base
of a palm-sized, heart-shaped tin box
reminding me of those treasured moments
I had as a child with my once healthy grandparents.
Though the sea divided us, I will always
be reminded of their warm hugs
on a cold, smoggy day.
