My Oma's Story

SNAP! Photograph of memory trapped,
Picturing in my mind her bravery and humour she always had,
And her lifelong will to help those in need.
POP! 3 months prior to the photo being taken,
She was scurrying about the hospital,
Saving soldiers’ lives and trying her best to help.
BANG! Now she is older and living in an elderly neighbours block.
Then crack! Falling, falling now she has her wrist.
Tchk! Tchk! Sipping tea gently in a nursing home.
Now, she is forever dozing as photos of the present are being bought to life.
The photograph resembles her dark brown hair loosely tied in the still wind,
The grey milky tea sky and
The white woven bag that hung from her strong now dainty lifeless hand.
