My Reprieve

Mahogany arms cradle my body,
Its roots dark rivers beneath the earth
A canopy of leaves,
Not just shade within trees,
But a loom of emerald and jade.
They are my shield from prying eyes,
For this is my reprieve from their spiteful lies.
One by one my tears fall to the earth,
Their brine disturbing the peace.
But the wind caresses my face,
It’s featherlight kisses
Providing a moment of solace.
Fat droplets of rain fall from the skies,
Cleansing and purging my distressful cries.
A weight leaves my chest,
Like a leaf on the wind,
No longer caught in the maelstrom that was me.
The scent of petrichor fills my lungs,
The denouement of my raging sea.
And as I look to the skies,
I witness a myriad of colours:
Citrine, amethyst, sapphire.
They arc through the sky,
A resplendent gift after battle,
My entry into this realm seeming like a lifetime ago.
It is a sensation,
This liberation.
Not my damnation,
But rather my salvation.
The world is a strange place,
It is detestable, it is wicked,
But Mother gifted nature,
One rare, sparkling jewel,
So let it deflect their hateful lies.
Let it cleanse your future cries.
