My Safe Passage

As I wander through the winding halls of a dark palace,
My velvet dress brushes lightly against my bare feet
The lush roses donning my neck in full bloom.
Its motherly voice warms my ear,
Incanting the words: “you are beautiful, you are magnificent”
The mossy green of the velvet skirt weighs down my steps
And the shimmery gold coating glows even in the darkest path of the world.
Through the shadowy halls I twirl,
My long skirt shooting down endlessly
Until it seizes the floor and drags at my heels.
Without my dress I feel naked and plain,
The whispery words reduced to ghostly tremors.
The infinite hall I drift through, enveloping me in fear.
But the lacy bodice caresses my heart,
And assures me that I am safe.
The silvery cobwebs crawl up my hips and down my arms,
Caging me inside the dress.
I am beautiful,
I am magnificent
And the inky hall cannot scare me.
