Far in the damp humid river you’ll find an odd creature called the platypus.
The most unique Australian animal.
Their tails flap, swing, and groove.
Fur as brown and delicate as a puppy playing in the mud.
Webbed feet like a diver, splashing around in the water.

Living in a burrow beneath the bank.
Surround by majestic trees stood tall and proud.
Between the rocks and weeds.
The moist slimy river reflecting a greenish gloom.

Peaceful as a mouse they plunge for food, beneath the river grasses.

Attending carefully to the electric movement under the river current.
They search for freshwater shrimp approaching.
Suddenly, a splash of amusement, hunting down a freshwater shrimp.
Animals scatter away into the darkness.

The nocturnal platypus emerges like a fox.
Spending hours hunting its prey.
Joy fills the water as they splash around in a paddle.
Fine dining through the night as the moon watches over them.
A poison touch for defence when endangered.

This is the native platypus.
