Numbats Numbered

Crunch, crunch, crunch,
A numbat swiftly navigates the forest floor.
The forest is alive with the hum of creatures chattering,
The soft gurgle of the creek.
The wind whispering its secrets to nobody,
The little numbat nestles in a hollow log.
BOOM, CRASH, SNAP!
The forest wails with agony,
Man, and its machines
Destroy the timeless beauty of the eucalypt forest,
The now lifeless forest breathes its last breath.
Hiss, hiss, hiss,
A rageful purr fills the ears of the forest's creatures.
Fear strikes their hearts,
Like a cat strikes its prey.
A baby joey now breathes its last breath.
The little numbat's world has collapsed
The pain she feels is as sharp as—
A cat's claw, a tree loppers axe.
Our unique numbats are numbered.
