Old man gum tree, towering over me,

Wise old gum tree, tell me what do you see?

Majestic and tall, keeping guard,

watching over, protecting us, from your post in the yard.

As the children play beneath your arms,

I wonder about those who've passed:

how many children have you seen?

How many have silent screams?

As the leaves fall, and the flowers re-grow,

I wonder if we will ever know?

But, I know

you know.
