Once upon a time, there were trees as far as the eye could see
Once upon a time, you'd wake up to an eternal ocean of green
And humans thought “Why, we’ll take a bit of this”
And they took and took and took

Day by day, more and more trees fell
More than could grow back, and more than was needed
Humans began pulling out the plug of the ocean of green
“It’ll get better soon,” they said. But soon never came

The only thing that came was the draining of the ocean of green

Every generation saw less and less trees then the ones before them
Every generation experienced less and less of the healing embrace of nature
But what did the people in charge say?
"Things will get better soon."

But it never did, ever will
Unless people take action; now
For the hope that one day
You and I will wake up to more trees
Than we went to sleep with
