A world inhabited by humans,

what a wonder it is.

The lush, green gums glimmer in the glow,

A beauty from within.

Through the gum leaves,

the slightest movement catches the eye.

Humans! Here!

The koala continues to spy.

As the sun rests,

a tiny ember burns alight.

Still small, still there.

Burning through the night.

An ember becomes a fire,

the humans leave, one by one.

The fire devours trees the way a starving pig would feed,

once there, then gone.

A burnt, desolate ashy plain extends,

far as the eye can see.

How much more shall be destroyed before none is left?

Until there is One Koala, me.
