Before the woods

Bestowed their lives to the flames.

Koalas, dining tranquilly,

Kangaroos sprang across the plains

High above, the sky mutated grey.

Flames bartered nature into a virtuous prey.

Crackling, fizzing, popping, blazing,

The firestorm was enthroned.

It was, queen.

Ash, its ignoble heir

From peppermint to wattle,

Every single one of them,

Stripped bare.

Fiery fumes from the flames flew,

Smothering hot, boiling gale blew.

The fire was a furnace,

Burning and burning till the last beat.

Now was the time to feel

The passing away land,

Bare feet.
