Passing of a Leaf

Once a large green leaf,
Now brown, wrinkled and full of disbelief
No longer at its prime age,
But at the age of passing
Falls slowly down.
It lands as light as a feather,
On the cold, hard ground.
Staring up at the youngsters
Shimmering in the warm sunlight.
His shivering body crumpled up
As he awaits his ultimate death.
