Quokka

Little hopping quokkas,

Brown, soft fur,

Fuzzy and energetic,

Black shiny eyes,

Ears pricked to listen.

Roaming Rottnest Island,

Searching for food at day,

Climbing and gripping branches,

Leaves and bark from small trees,

Munches and nibbles,

Chewing like a giraffe.

Sometimes sleeping at night,

But also dozing at day,

Small, shaded shelters,

Seeking protection.

Being hunted to extinction,

Losing their habitat,

Becoming extinct,

Rescued by rangers,

Calling out for help.
