rainbow lorikeet

As the flash of colour
like the afternoon sun
flies by in the wind
I hear a distressed call
stressed like a caged bird
Red fire burning down the home.
of too many to count
leaving them lost like a child far from home
I feel I should reach out
and help out
but I am stopped
When I lie on the beach and see the victims
lying unconscious
but their suffering has not yet ended
while they listen to the beach natural band
Rainbow lorikeets losing their supposed forever home,
unable to feel the smooth, creamy bark under their feet
and flying in the dappled light
Please don't destroy my home.
I love my home
