The soil parts to reveal a minuscule seedling,

battling for a place, a spot,

amongst the giants of the forest.

But they have already fought, and succeeded.

Tall and prosperous they stand,

undefeated.

The tiny seedling grows drawing in the light from above,

but as it expands its siblings grow taller.

Now big and robust trees,

stealing all the light from above.

Leaving the young tree in darkness.

A darkness that strangles it.

Arms outstretched up in the air,

begging for mother nature's forgiveness.

But the youngling was left in silence.

Strangled by darkness.

Emptiness.

Lungs black.

So the seedling shrinks,

down, into the dark soil.
