The fraying bracelet forever tied to my wrist reminds me of a long-distance friendship
That was born the same day I was born, and ten months after her
And grew as we grew, over Skype and across the globe

It reminds me of last Easter, when I saw Natalie again after a year of separation
And we danced through the misty bush like galahs, jumping together off rocks
Laughing at the cockatoos with their radiant yellow crests, and the pudgy wombats toddling

I remember snuggling under mounds of blankets
And staying up much later than we should have, watching movies with her Mum

Our friendship grew larger, bigger and stronger
And we bought friendship bracelets to tie on our wrists and remind us of each other
If the bracelet broke or got to tight, then it had been too long since we saw each other
So we decided she would have to fly to Australia as soon as possible

Preferably to stay

Saying goodbye at the airport was hard, and over time my bracelet began to fray and disintegrate,
As I forgot the exact print on her favourite jeans, and how to play Baby seal

But I remember her being my being my best friend ever since we were rugged up babies in Sweden
She still is my best friend- always

My bracelet broke today
But our friendship remains forever
