That nerve racking moment when they call out your event,
You don’t realize how far you’ve made it;
But all I worry about was what was present,
There were chairs around the room for people to sit
And you try to breathe like it’s your last.
My heart beats as if it’s going to thud out of my chest
When it’s your time, it comes in a blast.
But all I will try to do is my best
My adrenaline rushes while I wait on the block.
Then the siren goes to dive,
My body starts to go stiff as a lock.
I was determined to survive,
Two hundred meters was tough,
When I touched the wall it felt like a massive weight off my back.
My legs and arms felt rough
Then I turned my back -
A new personal best.
Three minutes and ten seconds
Now I could rest
I will never forget my first time swimming at States.
