Summer

The smell of the salty summer air slapped me in the face,
And the rust that had formed on the door after nearly a year.
It brought back so many memories,
Not all of them being good.
Like the time I got so sunburnt I couldn’t move for days,
Or the time I accidentally touched a pufferfish.
But those were only a couple of bad memories,
There were enough good ones to outweigh the bad.
I had been waiting all year for this,
Since the moment we left I had been longing to be back.
Sitting under the stars as the fire blazed,
Waking up early to watch the sunrise from the beach,
But most of all being in my favourite place on the planet.
Summer.
