Sunflower Sights

You used to always see me
Around nature; grass or tree
I would grow to great heights
Sometimes so extreme
Growing so high I could touch the sky
It was quite a dream
But then humans came
With their civilisations
They built houses
Then, train stations
They slowly killed my family
It was a disaster, a calamity
I had to protect the ones I loved,
The ones I feared would be gone.
I led them over no-man’s land
So we could carry on
As the building of houses calmed down, we regrew over time
We became the most important again, the highest, the prime
I’m a sunflower tall in the sky,
No matter what happens I’ll always stand high.
