The Beach

It's silent here except for a seagull squeaking.
I walk deep in thought, letting the gritty
yet smooth sand squelch between my toes,
come over me. It's nice here and peaceful
and without the world's distractions
and yet I know it will be dinner soon, and I must get back,
but I stay just a little longer.
I close my eyes, take a deep breath.
The air is cold, filled with moisture.
I breathe a second time,
this time I listen to the waves crash heavily
then bubble as if gasping for air
then as if playing a game they run quickly back.
