A burning sight,

The bush in flames,

The firemen fight,

But not much remains.

The fire burns the outback under the glistening stars,

Koalas are scared for their lives.

They try to cross the road but there are too many cars,

The hot coals, like walking on knives.

Homes burning to the ground,

People frightened, animals hurt.

The houses look like a mound.

Both koalas and people are alert.

People run away, seeking shelter from the burning field,

Day breaks and the fire has burnt out.

We have our hands, our tools and we will rebuild,

But the fate of the koalas is in doubt.
