The Chinese Parasol

Pitter, patter, pitter, patter
Rain comes falling down
Droplets from the sky soak the ground
Someone is coming
Someone from worlds away
I know who that person is
My sister from far away

She greets me with a smile
And takes me to the house
The storm has stopped now
So has my frown
We sit alone sipping English tea
She pulls out an object
Something behind her knee

A purple Chinese parasol grasped between her hands
A gift from me to you she says as she stands
I smile like a kid on Christmas
I smile with delight
My hands grasp the delicate object
And I push the umbrella upright
What a wonderful wonder!

Pink, yellow, blue and Purple flowers in disguise.
Smiling, I hug her across the wooden table
It was clearly a surprise
She says it’s something for me to cherish
Something for someone wise
She said that she has chosen me because it was no surprise
Pass it on to someone special

Pass it in disguise
It will change their mind forever
Forever until they fly
The day will come for you and me to finally see the skies
But please promise me one thing
and share with someone wise
I know who that person is

And I will find the time
To share it with someone special
So they can smile wide
In this world of wonder, wishing and whistling
To the tunes of the wind
While rain drops are falling
On an umbrella to save you from the rain.
