Tears of the sun dripped onto it,
Lathering it with shine.
Drops of sacred blood stained the centre of it,
Giving it a splash of colour.
It lay there, the wooden box not able to conceal its sparkle

Tree whispers, stream murmurs are suddenly hushed
Cheery voices, echoing around the vast woodlands
Taking me back to
When I thought she was innocent

She was convincing when she wanted to be,
Her soulless eyes staring intensely into you,
Making you unable to resist her reasoning,
And doubt your judgement instead

She held the dazzling prize in her hand
The ring
She stood motionless staring at us
Lost for words

She was chocking up, tears trickling rapidly down her cheeks
Letting go of an immense burden
She watched the sun ebb, the last rays bounce off her treasure
Before gripping it fiercely in her fist

Sometimes I retrieve it from its wooden box
Years later, it hasn’t gone forgotten
My throat tightened, my eyes watered
I knew precisely what I had to do
