The Desert-Rat Kangaroo

There are many common species

like koalas and cockatoos

but there are some extinct species 

like the desert-rat kangaroo

It was as tiny as a teacup

each eye looked like a small black dot

it was very small and very cute

but didn't weigh a lot

It lived in Queensland and South Australia

on our beautiful Australian land

in many different places

mostly near sand

These animals are extinct 

because of the red fox

it invaded their habitat 

and abandoned them like kittens in a box

These animals are gone now

and we don't know what to do

because no matter what we say

they stay extinct for another day
