As I lay down by the bay, ten baby echidnas

crawl onto lenses of glasses.

While I think of echidnas, I look

through the forest leaves and all I can see

are baby echidnas swinging on the vines

of trees. As the sun sets they peacefully

scatter to their burrows in the bright green

forest. As morning arrives they burst out

looking for ants and termites.

They go to sleep cosy and snuggly.
