The Eucalyptus tree was the oldest, tallest tree

In the bush

With strong branches like

ancient arms

Stretching out far from the trunk

The bush was a crowd of giants

Slightly swaying in the cool Autumn breeze.

Through the thick, lush green canopy,

The warm midday sun

Bled through

Making speckled patterns of sunlight on the tree trunks

BANG!

A tree close by hit the ground followed by another loud

BANG!

Another tree fell. And another. And another. And another.

Until the ginormous, ancient Eucalyptus tree was left to stand

In the barren wasteland of dry earth

In the sea of tree stumps

Alone.
