I hear animals running, the sound of their footsteps drumming.

It's too late for us now, I just hope we won't drown.

Where are they? My pride, the lights of my day!

My young are gone, my sworn family torn…

The rushing water is coming faster than light,

when it arrives I must fight, for that is what my young would have wanted.

Leaping up higher and higher in the tree,

my tail swishing away from the branches wild and free.

The sky is grey as along passes the day,

We hide in tall trees, away from water and freeze.

But it just makes me think, maybe death is kinder than pain.
