The Gift of a Pet

Big and fluffy, warms the heart,
With big round eyes like buttons,
Till the time we’re forced apart,
I’ll carry you through the ages.
Who knew that a present
Could make me feel secure?
Grandma’s gift that meant
More than she will ever know for sure.
Black and white, and fat,
All that we’ve done, the journeys,
Nine lives, like a cat,
You bring back many memories,
You helped me through hard times.
The image of my beloved pet
Who was showing the signs
Of the end, many visits to the vet.
Unknown, scarred but never alone,
I’ve loved you always, and always will,
Like the moon, so clear, I see –
My life with you has been a gift.
