The Greater Stick-nest Rat

The Greater Stick-nest Rat is as small as a feather,
They roam after hours but not in hot weather.
You’ll find them in shrublands and under small trees,
But be very careful, they’re difficult to see.
Large eyes and rounded ears,
Looking at them will send you to tears.
Round and fluffy like a dandelion they sit,
With a long scruffy tail that doesn’t quite fit.
Like herbivores, they do not eat meat,
They won’t cause any harm because they’re so sweet.
They eat fruit, plants and types of leaves,
And they sometimes climb trees for tasty seeds.
The Greater Stick-nest Rat has had a hard time,
From bushfires clearing their home, it’s a crime!
Take care in the bush, the next time you’re there,
Look after these creatures and be more aware!
